Photographing the religion of community that has survived for thousands of years in spite of all the challenges…
We cannot sufficiently thank Alberto Modiano, one of the exceptional artists of the Turkish Jewish Community, for his unique work that will contribute to our history and cultural heritage. It is likely that decades later historians and sociologists will try to understand the religious traditions and rituals of our rapidly diminishing community by examining the photographs of this book.
They will also observe how various colors of Judaism was reflected on the faith and intellectual life of the community even though it has been recorded as an Orthodox community.
In this context, we do not overlook the documentary, historical and sociological importance of Alberto’s photographs since we are well aware that sometimes a single photograph can substitude a hundred page text of a community analysis...
